Our last average frost is April 15th, so I usually wait until then to plant my raised beds. I have 3 wood beds. Leave bottom open to native soil-no landscape fabric wanted. Untreated wood for edibles<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dirt is \u2153 native soil, \u2153 soil conditioner, \u2153 compost-I like mushroom compost. Add in an organic fertilizer like Espoma garden tone when you build the soil. Can also use a pre mixed soil, or straight compost. Plant dwarf or smaller varieties.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-rounded\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" src=\"https:\/\/georgiagalgardens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/IMG_5154-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2605\" srcset=\"https:\/\/georgiagalgardens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/IMG_5154-rotated.jpg 480w, https:\/\/georgiagalgardens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/IMG_5154-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Fertilize throughout the seaon. I like organic fertilizer for many reasons but here are three:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Better for plants- slower release, no burning,&nbsp;slower more even growth and better plants<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Better for people-natural fertilizer creates tastier vegetables hands down, no chemical concerns<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Better for the environment-only use what you need, and not more. Then the excess does not run off into the streams, rivers and lakes, and create problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">5. <strong>Responsible Pest Control<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" src=\"https:\/\/georgiagalgardens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/IMG_1841-e1569871182863.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2468\" srcset=\"https:\/\/georgiagalgardens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/IMG_1841-e1569871182863.jpg 480w, https:\/\/georgiagalgardens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/IMG_1841-e1569871182863-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Hornworm covered in Eggs?!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Encourage good stewardship and organic gardening and pest control&nbsp;where possible.&nbsp; Pick them off, or spray with water as 1st pest control method.
